I Suffer Again
A feature-length screenplay and story concept about dissociative identity disorder set against the backdrop of a music competition.
Project Overview
In this feature film script, Lia wants to win a prestigious music audition to escape debt but finds herself at the center of a murder investigation involving her competitor. This is a story about the dangers of denying one’s feelings: due to a defense mechanism, Lia’s alter ego turns into a destructive force that begins to fulfill suppressed emotions using a maniac’s methods.
Structure & Narrative
- Dual Protagonist: I built the conflict between Lia and her alter ego as a confrontation between two different psychological and narrative approaches to problem-solving.
- Musical Symbolism: I integrated guitar playing as a metaphor for mental state: when Lia loses control of herself, she literally starts missing notes.
“You have tried so hard not to feel anything for so long. And now you have achieved inner security, but what are you paying in return?”
Interactive Screenplay Fragment (Deleted Scene)
An interactive draft scene by the theater’s stage door revealing the twisted relationship between Lia and her alter ego Aidan:
Deleted Scene: Smoke Break by the Back Door
An interactive dialogue between Lia and Aidan before the decisive round of the music audition.
Lia and Aidan stand by the theater's back entrance. Aidan pulls the last cigarette from his pack and lights it. Lia pats down her empty pockets searching for hers.
